What should the opening paragraph answer?
The opening should identify the role and make the central connection: why this person's background is relevant to the work. It does not need a dramatic story or empty enthusiasm.
A strong opening gives the reader a reason to continue. It can name a theme such as operational judgement, customer trust, analytical work or a deliberate career change, then point to the evidence that follows.
What evidence belongs in the middle?
Choose two or three examples that map to the role's priorities. Explain the responsibility and relevance rather than copying CV bullets. The letter can connect experiences across settings when the connection is real.
For a career changer, this is where translation matters. The applicant can show how high-pressure service, careful administration or route planning built capabilities relevant to a new role without claiming direct experience they do not have.
What makes a cover letter sound generic?
Generic letters praise the company without evidence, repeat broad adjectives and describe the applicant's history in chronological order. They often contain paragraphs that remain unchanged when the employer name is swapped.
Tailoring means the selection, argument and language respond to the actual role. It does not mean repeating the company website or inventing a personal connection.
How should the final draft be checked?
Verify the company, title, names and every factual claim. Read it aloud for tone, remove unsupported superlatives and make sure it stays within any stated length or format.
The user should be comfortable defending each example in an interview. A polished sentence that cannot survive a follow-up question weakens the application.
